About the college
Agnes Scott College is an independent undergraduate college in the United States. Agnes Scott's campus lies in downtown Decatur, Georgia, nestled inside the perimeter of the bustling metro-Atlanta area.
The college was founded in 1889 as Decatur Female Seminary by a group of Presbyterians under the leadership of their minister, Frank H. Gaines. In 1890, the name was changed to Agnes Scott Institute to honor the mother of the college's primary benefactor, Col. George Washington Scott. The name was changed again to Agnes Scott College in 1906, and remains today a liberal arts college for women.
Agnes Scott currently enrolls 1040 students. The student to faculty ratio is 10:1 and 100% of the tenure-track faculty hold terminal degrees.
The college offers 34 undergraduate majors and 31 minors and is affiliated with numerous institutions, including Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Nursing. Students who graduate from Agnes Scott receive a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree.
Agnes Scott is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The current mission of the college, adopted in 2002, states: Agnes Scott College educates women to think deeply, live honorably and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times.

Credits and diplomas must be earned at recognized institutions. We will accept students without the recommended number of courses in a particular field on a case by case basis.

To be a student at Agnes Scott, you must be able to proficiently communicate in English from the first day of classes. If you must obtain an I-20 document (F-1 Visa) in order to attend Agnes Scott, you are required to show proof of financial support. Additionally, if you are an F-1 Visa holder in the U.S., you MUST provide a copy of your current Visa status. Applicants who are in the U.S. with any other Visa type (e.g., H-4, L-2, etc.) must also show proof of financial support.
Housing Information
Living on campus is an integral part of the living and learning experience. The Office of Residence Life provides an interactive community, not just a place to sleep. All staff and resources support the educational and social growth of students as they take advantage of this benefit. Residence halls are almost entirely self-governed within the policies of the college and the Office of Residence Life.
Agnes Scott’s residence halls are comfortable and inviting, providing students with diverse residential options designed to support students’ transition to independent life after college. All residence hall rooms have wifi services. All buildings have common television viewing areas with basic digital services and common laundry facilities. Each Avery Glen apartment has its own washer and dryer. Custodial service is provided in all common area bathrooms, lounges and corridors. Custodial service is not provided in Avery Glen apartments. All campus residential buildings (excluding Avery Glen apartments and the Theme Houses) have elevators.
Residence Halls
With many buildings constructed at the turn of the 19th century, Agnes Scott’s 100-acre campus provides the close-knit communal setting expected of the traditional liberal arts experience.
Residence Hall Assignments
First-year students are assigned to either Walters or Winship halls. Students who do not select a roommate will be matched by the office of residence life.
Transfer students are assigned in all halls based upon availability.
